Hilo Shore Assessment

Hilo Shore Assessment fees are due. If you haven’t paid them please send your dues in by May 1. You should have received your assessment letter by mail, and it is also below to view or download. Any questions please reach out to the Board at [email protected]

Summer Picnic

Last year was such a wonderful gathering, we’re excited to do it again! The Board will provide the dogs and burgers (veggie ones too!) and you bring the salads, sides and desserts.

NEW PICNIC DATE July 11, 12pm-2pm. Will be hosted by Chuck & Linda Kraus.

Annual Meeting

Saturday August 8th at 10am @ the Legion Hall on Bateman Road. Please plan to attend in person or by zoom to hear about important updates and vote on some current proposals and new Board Members. Zoom link will be sent a week before the meeting.

Board Elections 2026

There will be a vote for two (2) board seats at the annual meeting. Each will be for a term of three (3) years. These seats are currently held by Dick Baker and Jennifer Coughlin. Anyone interested in running for a board seat must submit your name and a brief resume before July 1st. We will post all candidates after the deadline to submit.


On the Water

Starting this year all personal watercraft (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, etc) left at the waterfront access for the community (Landing Lane and Community Drive next to the dock) must be assigned a numbered rack space and corresponding sticker. A $20 fee/sticker will help pay for new racks to be built and other waterfront expenses. No watercraft will be allowed to be left on the ground. Please contact board member Jim Minnigan for a sticker and assignment of rack space(s) choosing dock or landing.  If you currently have boats on racks without a sticker you need to get a sticker or the boats will be removed.

Community Dock

Our community dock is almost 30 years old and needs some repairs. Luckily, Jim Minnigan is willing and able to replace some of the structural boards and hardware that has deteriorated. The board has been discussing the history, current use and future needs of the dock and we may look to hold a special meeting regarding the dock or discuss and have motions to vote on at the annual meeting. The Board recognizes that the community dock is a valuable asset to Hilo Shores and wants to be sure it stays that.

Road Update

The town highway department put in three new catch basins last fall (2 on Valley and 1 on Hillside) and they repaired a section of Hillside that had erosion problems. They will be replacing/repairing more catch basins along Community Drive this spring. We will then have approximately 4/10ths of a mile of our roads repaved per the discussion we had at last year’s annual meeting.

Community Announcements

The Town of Shelter Island is asking for your input on the future of healthcare on Shelter Island.

Comprehensive, accessible healthcare matters to all of us on Shelter Island, and we want your feedback to help shape what that looks like. The attached community survey takes 2-5 minutes and is open and ready for responses. The survey covers topics like pharmacy access, mental health services, home visits, and more. There is also space to share your thoughts and ideas. We encourage EVERYONE to take part and help ensure that future healthcare planning reflects the true needs of Shelter Island residents. When more of us participate, we build a clearer picture-and a stronger healthcare future-for everyone. Participation is anonymous. Every response makes a difference. Paper copies are available at the Town Hall, Senior Center, FIT Center, and Library. Please share this link with your friends on the Island!
